SIMEON BOOKER, EMMETT TILL, CLYDE KENNARD, LAMAR SMITH, MISSISSIPPI

Simeon Booker, who died in December 2017.

In 1955, in Mississippi, 14 year old Emmett Till was tortured and murdered by a group of white men.

Emmett Till, a Black kid, was lynched after a white woman said she was offended by him in her family's grocery store.

Simeon Booker, a Black journalist, wanted to expose the truth.

At the Emmett Till murder trial, journalist Simeon Booker was segregated from the regular reporter pool and forced to work at a small card table in the back of the courtroom.

Two white men who were accused of murdering Emmett - and later admitted it in a Look Magazine interview - were acquitted in 1955 by an all-white, all-male jury, and so could not be retried.

The woman, who said she was offended by Emmett, was Carolyn Bryant Donham.

She now confesses that her allegations - that Emmett grabbed her and was menacing and sexually crude toward her - were false.

Woman Linked to 1955 Emmett Till Murder

Simeon Booker was a reporter for Jet and Ebony magazines.

Booker covered the funeral of Emmett Till.

Booker stood beside Till's mother as she threw open the coffin and removed the rubber bag from her son's mutilated face.

Booker was often threatened and attacked by white fascists.

Emmett Till

1. Emmett Till was from Chicago.

In 1955, fourteen year old Emmett went to visit a small town in Mississippi.

He allegedly whistled at a woman outside a store.

A group of men later beat Emmett to a pulp, shot him dead and dumped him in a river.

The husband of the woman who had been allegedly whistled at, and his half brother, were arrested.

The evidence against them was 'pretty overwhelming'.

Emmett Till

The jury found the two men not guilty.

In 1956, the two men admitted in an interview with Look magazine that they had killed Emmett.

Emmett was black and the jury was white.

Clyde Kennard

2. In 1955, Clyde Kennard, a former army sergeant, tried to enrol at Mississippi Southern College in Mississippi.

He was sent away.

University officials planted illicit alcohol and stolen chicken feed in his car and had him charged with theft.

He died in prison.

slaves

3. Lamar Smith was a 63-year-old black farmer and World War II veteran and organizer of black voter registration.

He was shot to death in broad daylight at close range on the lawn of the Lincoln County courthouse in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Some reports say there were many white witnesses including the local sheriff who saw a white man covered with blood leaving the scene.

No witnesses would come forward and three men who had been arrested went free.

EXPLAINING GOOD AND BAD EVENTS.

Falkland Road.

David Allan writes:

"When you experience a 'bad' event, try to imagine what possible good could come out of it -

"Even if it's many years from now or several cause-and-effects later, or even if it just makes you more empathetic or prepared next time.

"Not convinced?

"Look back on something bad from your past and connect the dots between that event and real happiness that came later as a direct result of that breakup, layoff, sickness etc."

Good and bad

Port au Prince, Haiti

Avoid the extremes, if you want to avoid very 'bad' events.

Jesus advised us to take the path which is straight, and avoid the extremes on either side.

"The idea that 'challenges help us to grow', that 'we develop as a result of the hard things that happen to us', is the classic hero's journey."

Good and bad

"You can find potentially bad in what seems good.

"My favorite example of this are lottery winners. Lottery winners are shockingly unhappy not long after their greatest wish comes true."

Good and bad

France

"Once you move past 'good and bad' you become less concerned about outcome; you become more accepting to how things evolve naturally."

Good and bad

West Java

From The Tao Book and Card Pack by Timothy Freke:

When an old farmer's stallion wins a prize at a country show, his neighbour calls round to congratulate him, but the old farmer says, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?”

The next day some thieves come and steal his valuable animal.

His neighbour comes to commiserate with him, but the old man replies, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?”

A few days later the spirited stallion escapes from the thieves and joins a herd of wild mares, leading them back to the farm.

The neighbour calls to share the farmer’s joy, but the farmer says, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?”

The following day, while trying to break in one of the mares, the farmer’s son is thrown and fractures his leg.

The neighbour calls to share the farmer’s sorrow, but the old man’s attitude remains the same as before.

The following week the army passes by, forcibly conscripting soldiers for the war, but they do not take the farmer’s son because he cannot walk.

The neighbour thinks to himself, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?” and realises that the old farmer must be a Taoist sage.

Northern Cyprus.

"It’s not that the farmer is unengaged in life. It's not that he is unable to be happy or sad.

"But he has a greater perspective.

"He sees the bigger picture.

"He know that he can't stop things from happening, but he can control how he reacts to them.

"And it's often not the experience that matters as what you do with that experience."

Good and bad

Jesus advised us to take the path which is straight, and avoid the extremes on either side.

Blessed are the meek: for they will inherit the earth. (5:5)

Blessed are the merciful: for they will be shown mercy. (5:7)

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they will see God. (5:8)

The point to remember is that if we follow the correct path, everything is hunky dory.

...

Buddhists believe in taking the The Middle Way, avoiding extremes.

The Taoists believe in avoiding the extremes.

The taoist Lao Tzu said:

The great Way is easy, yet people prefer the side paths.

Be aware when things are out of balance. Stay centered within the Tao.

Stay Centered - A Simple Explanation of Absolutely Everything.

"Another way to 'stay centered' is expressed by the Golden Mean, which Aristotle described as keeping to the beneficial middle and avoiding extremes."

In philosophy, especially that of Aristotle, the golden mean is the desirable middle between two extremes, one of excess and the other of deficiency.

...

BUT, if Jesus avoided the extremes, what about the crucifiction?

Was that a story added on to the New Testament, to tie in with Jewish myths?

According to theologian Gunnar Samuelsson, Jesus did not die on a cross.

There is always a suspicion that the 'official story' is not entirely true.

There is a suspicion that the 'biography' has had untrue bits added, and that there is a lot of 'spin'.

"Late in the third century B.C. Cleomenes, king of Sparta, embarked on a revolutionary policy of cancellation of debts, redistribution of land and emancipation of the helots (slaves).

"He was driven out of Sparta...

"In the story preserved by Plutarch, Cleomenes and twelve friends have a last supper together on the night before his death.

"He is betrayed to his enemies...

"His dead body is crucified

"A prodigy occurs after the crucifixion; and the people of Alexandria call him a 'hero and son of the gods'."

The Legend Of Jesus Christ - Text-only version

So, the 'real Jesus', who taught that one should tune in to the Holy Spirit, may not have been crucified?

Let's look at Taoism.
1. The Force

Consider Luke Skywalker and how Obi-wan Kenobi taught him about "the Force".

Luke had to avoid being distracted by things like fear and anger.

He had to learn about spontaneity.

On one occasion, Luke was trying, without success, to avoid laser blasts from a 'remote'.

When Obi-wan Kenobi placed a helmet on Luke's head so he couldn't be distracted, he easily deflected the remote's laser blasts.

The idea is that when you are aware of the 'Tao' and feel 'the force', you can flow with it, and the right action appears for itself, spontaneously.

(More here: http://www.exn.ca/starwars/taoism.cfm / http://www.belief )

The economy does not work when things are out of balance.

2. What are the essentials of Taoism?

(http://www.godquest.org/taoism.htm / Http://www.crystalinks.com/taoism.html)

Some Taoists and Christians and others believe that bliss can be achieved when:

1. One is compassionate

2. One is moderate (Avoid large numbers?)

3. One is humble (Avoid large numbers?)

4. Everything is in balance (+ X - X rather than +X - 1000X?)

5. One is in tune with the Holy Spirit or the Tao or whatever one wants to call it. One goes with the flow.

6. One avoids the use of force; one avoids pitting one's will against the universe.

..

The Christians talk about God’s spirit.

God nourishes us.

The Taoists talk about the Tao being a force that flows through everything.

The Tao nourishes us.

healmypet.com.

3. The Tao and Yin and Yang:

When the Tao is in balance one can be happy. (+ X - X rather than +X - 1000X?)

There is Yin and there is Yang (just as there is black and white, up and down, male and female).

'When they are equally present, all is calm.

'When one is outweighed by the other, there is confusion and disarray.

'The Tao surrounds everyone and one must listen to find enlightenment.'

True Taoism does not get bogged down with theology. "The Tao that can be named is not the true Tao."

Taoists love their enemies. "I am good to the man who is good to me, likewise, I am also good to the bad man."

The USA's Phoenix programme (left) involved torturing and killing civilians. The USA's ISIS force is also going to extremes. www.thesleuthjournal.com

4. Wu wei is action through inaction; ‘a practice of minimal action, particularly minimal violent action’.

Don’t overdo the antibiotics or the pesticides.

Don’t bomb your enemies.

Consider the lilies.

Don't force yourself or others to be compassionate. Be spontaneous.

Genuine love is spontaneous love.

The USA is out of balance. www.youtube.com

"The Master does not see evil as a force to resist, but simply as an opaqueness, a state of self-absorption that is in disharmony with the universal process, so that, as with a dirty window, the light can't shine through.

"This freedom from moral categories allows him his great compassion for the wicked and the selfish" - Stephen Mitchell

"The Tao regulates natural processes and nourishes balance in the Universe.

"It embodies the harmony of opposites (i.e. there would be no love without hate, no light without dark, no male without female.)"

5. Henry C K Liu wrote in the Asia Times about Taoism.

Where does evil come from?

There can be no ‘good’ without ‘evil’.

"Controlled quantities of the bad can be good.

"Excessive amounts of the good can be bad.

"Poison kills. But when handled properly, it can cure diseases.

"Without poison, there can be no medicine.

"To employ poison to attack poison is a Taoist principle."

The secret is to avoid extremes.

Americans carrying out torture in Vietnam.

How should we act?

We should avoid producing unintended consequences.

"Not taking premature or unnecessary actions keeps all of one's options open, so that the most appropriate action remains available.

"Actions always elicit reactions.

"Each action taken provokes reactions from all quarters that, taken together, are always more powerful than the precipitous action itself. It is the ultimate definition of the inescapable law of unintended consequences."

"To follow the dao (path) of life is to go with the natural flow of life and to avoid going against it.

"The ethical theories of Taoism lean toward passive resistance, believing that evil, by definition, will ultimately destroy even itself without undue interference.

"Yet it would be a mistake to regard Taoism as fatalistic and pessimistic, instead of the ultimate sophistication in optimism that it is.

"Only by not applying effort can one achieve that state in which nothing is not attainable effortlessly.

"A little ambition is a good thing. Total elimination, even of undesirables, is an extreme solution, and it is therefore self-defeating.

"Life is a prison from which one can escape only if one does not try to escape. It is the desire to escape that makes a place a prison, and the desire to return that makes it a home. Home is not where one is, it is where one wants to return."

6. Taoism and other religions.

The following comes from: http://www.jadedragon.com/archives/tao_heal/teach01.html

From Taoism: happiness comes from helping others; wealth comes from giving to others.

"Love the world as yourself; then you can care for all things."

From Buddhism: "Set your heart on doing good. Do it over and over again, and you will be filled with joy."

Buddha: "See yourself in others. Then whom can you hurt? What harm can you do?"

From Islam: "There is a reward for your treatment of every living thing." Muhammad also said: "None of you is a believer until you like for others what you like for yourself."

From Christianity: "Do unto others as you would have them do to you."

'CHILD TRAFFICKING BY GOVERNMENT'

UK children were trafficked to Australia, where they were sexually abused. Australia.

The UK's national child abuse inquiry is hearing testimony from people shipped as children to Australia.

Some children sent to former colonies between the 1920s and 1970s faced servitude, hard labour and sexual abuse.

Vulnerable British children shipped to the colonies after WWII

"In the 1920s, in the UK, it was common practice for people who fell on hard times to put their children into Barnardos childrens home until they could reclaim them.

"All too often those children were told their parents didn't want them and they were sent to the 'colonies', including Australia.

"The parents were told that their children had died...

"The UK government was, in effect, trafficking young, vulnerable children into sexual and physical slavery."

Child abuse survivor urges inquiry to 'name the villains'

Below is what we wrote earlier about child abuse in Australia:

...

The Parramatta Girls Home was a state-controlled children's care home, located in Parramatta, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Witnesses have spoken of regular rapes and assaults at the home.

The home was officially closed in July 1974, but continued to operate under a new name.

The dungeon at the home

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse heard in 2014 from women who were subjected to sexual and physical abuse at the home.

The home had a dungeon where as many as 50 women say they were raped as schoolgirls.

The dungeon at the home

Large numbers of children have been tortured and raped in children's care homes in Australia.

Often the police have been involved in the abuse.

Two journalists from Australia's Sun-Herald claimed see evidence of the satanic ritual abuse of children.

They interviewed six mothers whose children had disclosed experiences of Satanic Ritual Abuse and organised abuse in New South Wales.

The Woodlands Boys Home

In September 2013, it was reported that a pedophile ring, which included Christian clergy, sexually abused boys at the Woodlands Boys Home, in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

The home was run by the church.

Woodlands Boys Home

According to one witness: ''These men just came, got the boys, used them, and put them back.''

According to another witness: ''These men changed from week to week, suggesting a larger, organised ring.

''We are aware of a group of men who did come to the home in the 1970s for a number of years on a Sunday afternoon, ostensibly to conduct a children's Christian program, but who routinely took smaller boys into downstairs rooms in the building and abused them.''

Anglican priest Peter Rushton, who was one of those who sexually abused the children

One witness reported: ''If the boys reported what happened, they were flogged. My husband can still hear it today, the screaming of the boys when they were taken downstairs and flogged for saying what had been done to them.''

''Rushton went there all the time...''

The United Protestant Association has been forced to apologise for the child sexual abuse at its Woodlands and Ellimatta homes over nearly 40 years.

boys' home horror recalled.

The Salvation Army's BAYSWATER Boys' Home "was a paedophiles' paradise, with several unexplained deaths and missing boys, and others lent to outside paedophiles...

"Abuse by Salvation Army staff was so severe that in some cases boys were killed or allowed to die from their injuries...

"One victim, Rod Braybon, told police in 2009 of reports of two wards of state who died of beatings in the 1950s and were allegedly buried in the Sugarloaf Hill area of the home, while three other boys disappeared in mysterious circumstances...

''In the 1970s the Bayswater Boys' Home was staffed by a paedophile ring, and staff not only sexually abused the children in their care but also allowed other paedophiles free access to boys, who were removed from the home and sexually abused at will...

In 2006, the Salvation Army secretly paid more than $1.5 million in compensation to more than 50 victims who were beaten, raped and tortured from the 1950s to 1970s by Salvation Army officers at the Bayswater home, Box Hill Boys' Home and East Kew Girls' Home, all now closed."

Maltese children sent to 'child abuse' children's homes in Australia.(State Library of Western Australia, The Battye Library 005086D.) (310 Maltese child migrants were sent to Australia?)

In Australia, as in North America and Europe, kids have been beaten and raped in children's homes.

The top people generally turn a blind eye.

In 1956, the UK government's John Ross led a fact-finding committee investigating Australian children's homes to which British children had been sent.

Ross found horrid conditions in the 26 institutions he visited and wanted some of them blacklisted.

The Australian Government asserted that the standards of care were OK.

It ignored the Ross Committee’s findings and continued to send vulnerable children to blacklisted institutions.

Rapes and beatings continued.

Box Hill Boys' Home

On 7 December 2010, we read about serious child abuse in Australian children's homes, run by the Salvation Army.

(Salvation Army abuse)

Brian Cherrie was repeatedly raped inside the Salvation Army's Box Hill Boys' Home.

"The children's home where I grew up is still owned by the Salvation Army ... and is worth tens of millions of dollars," he said.

"These churches and charities made a lot of money on the back of our misery and they need to cough up and pay redress to all forgotten Australians."

Alfred Stirling said of his time in Bayswater Boys' Homes: "I'd get the crap beaten out of me, and then raped ... it was hell."

The Salvation Army has now said sorry for the abuse of children in its care up to the 1990s.

David Campbell, former Police Minister.

In 2007 and 2008, David Campbell was Police Minister in New South Wales, in Australia. (David Campbell.)

In May 2010 it was revealed that, while Transport Minister inNew South Wales, the married David Campbell used a ministerial car to visit Ken's of Kensington, a gay sex club in Sydney.

(Australian MP resigns over sex scandal)

Ken's of Kensington has facilities for "sex on the premises, including private cubicles and specially-themed fantasy rooms."

There has been speculation that Campbell's personal life could have been used to blackmail him while he was Police Minister in 2007 and 2008.

In 2008 the former New South Wales Police Minister Matthew Brown was forced to resign after dancing semi-naked on a green leather sofa and simulating a sex act.

In 2008, the former New South Wales Aboriginal Affairs Minister Milton Orkopoulos was jailed for child sex.

In 1999, two journalists from Australia's Sun-Herald claimed to have seen evidence of the satanic ritual abuse of children.

They interviewed six mothers whose children had disclosed experiences of SRA and organised abuse in New South Wales.

The children's disclosures were corroborating, although they had never met one another, and they had been able to draw representations of "satanic" ritual sites which were similar to ritual sites uncovered by police on the central coast of New South Wales.

British children sent to Australia (http://www.guardian.)

In the late 1980s, a number of children at a daycare centre in the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia, began disclosing experiences of organised and ritualistic sexual abuse to their parents and the police.[3]

Their disclosures included instances in which they were taken in a car from the creche to a nearby house, undressed by adults and sexually assaulted, video-taped and filmed while naked, and urinated and defecated upon by adults.

The children disclosed that some of the abusers wore police uniforms....[4]

List of satanic ritual abuse allegations.

In 2002, Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon referred complaints about the mishandling of the case by police to the Victorian Ombudsman.

An officer from the Ethical Standards Department was stood down a year later from the Ombudsman's investigation for "incompetence" after failing to pass on information from two key witnesses, and claiming that he never spoke to them when phone records proved that he had.

One of the witnesses referred to a tape of child pornography showing men in police uniforms sexually assaulting children from the daycare centre.

However, this lead was never followed up by the police.

British children sent to Australia (http://www.guardian.)

Another witness identified the house in which the children had been assaulted as being owned by a police officer.[7]

The principal of a private college on the Mornington Peninsula repeatedly told the Department of Human Services that a 12-year-old boy disclosed ongoing sexual abuse by an organised group of men wearing police uniforms.

According to the principal, all records of the child's complaint vanished.

A Victoria Police spokesman said he was not aware that files had disappeared. The police declined to press charges, saying the boy had been "too well groomed" by the pedophiles and probably would not testify in court.[8]

Sexual abuse was common at Bindoon Boys Town, in Australia.

The boys called their Catholic guardians the 'Christian Buggers'.

In 2001, an inquiry into Bindoon, by the Australian Senate (The sad truth behind Britain's lost children ), was told about:

1. Rape.

2. Children scrambling for breadcrumbs on the floor.

3. A boy being forced to shoot and skin a horse he considered to be his only friend.

In the two decades after World War II, the UK government took around 10,000 children from UK Children's Homes and sent them to Australia.

Many of these children were to become a form of slave labour.

Bindoon Boys Town

Some of the children ended up at Bindoon Boys Town.

At Bindoon there were regular floggings and there was regular child sexual abuse.

Former Bindoon boy John Hennessy speaks with a stutter.

He recalls being stripped naked and publicly flogged at Bindoon.

Mick Snell, who was sent to the Methodists Dalmar House in Sydney, says: "A lot are starting to top themselves... I dream I'm back there and I'm locked up, being verbally abused and whacked. I wake up in a cold sweat."

(The sad truth behind Britain's lost children)

Snell had to get up before 4am to milk the cows and had to work until dark.

"You had no one to turn to," says Snell.

Outsiders would take some boys out for the day.

"I know for a fact they were rock spiders (paedophiles). The kids that were involved, they didn't like talking about it," says Snell.

At Bindoon there was no teaching and several former inmates are illiterate.
